I have a friend in Midwest that always tell me stories about Maid-Rite. Maid-Rite is a chain of diners that stretches from Ohio to Iowa. These Maid-Rite Sliders are a classic “loose meat” sandwich that is popular in the Midwest. Just like a hamburger, but far from a sloppy Joe. Maybe kind of a cross between. You’ll love the seasoned, browned ground beef sandwiched on loose warm buns. These sliders are amazing plain or with melted cheese. The great news is, it is not impossible to make Maid-Rite Sliders at home with this easy recipe!
INGREDIENTS
½ small white onion, minced
1 pound lean ground beef
1 beef bouillon cube
½ c. water
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
12-pack slider buns
6 slices American cheese
⅓ c. dill pickle slices
BUTTER SAUCE:
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
½ c. butter, melted
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
How to make The Best Maid-Rite Sliders
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: In a large skillet, place the onion and ground beef. Cook the beef over medium heat until no longer pink.
Step 3: Drain the excess grease if needed, then add the water along with the brown sugars, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and bouillon cube. Bring everything to a boil. Once boiling, decrease the heat and let the mixture simmer until the liquid has evaporated.
Step 4: Into a baking dish, place the bottoms of the buns and cover with the beef mixture. On top, add the pickles, and slices of cheese, and finish with the top buns.
Step 5: In a small bowl, place the melted butter, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until combined and brush the mixture on top of the buns.
Step 6: Cover the dish with foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 25 minutes.
Step 7: Remove from the oven when done and serve the sliders immediately. Enjoy!
