I love Tiramisu and this recipe is my favorite. I can easily make this authentic Italian dessert any time and enjoy a rich and creamy, yet light treat. Tiramisu is the perfect dessert for any occasion. A total crowd-pleaser!
Ingredients
24 (roughly) Savoiardi biscuits (lady’s fingers)
2 c. mascarpone (500 grams)
1 c. strong brewed coffee (230ml)
4 egg yolks at room temperature
3 tbsp dark chocolate, grated
3 egg whites at room temperature
6 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp cocoa powder
4 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
How to make Tiramisu
Step 1: Into two separate bowls, carefully separate the egg yolks and whites. To the egg yolks, add 3 tbsp sugar and mix well using an electric whisk until thick and pale.
Step 2: Make sure to thoroughly clean the beaters. It is important so the egg whites will not whip if the egg yolks are added.
Step 3: Whisk the egg whites until frothy. Then, add 3 tbsp of sugar and whisk until stiff and glossy.
Step 4: To the egg yolk mixture, add the mascarpone and mix well until smooth and creamy. Then, add ⅓ of the whisked eggs and fold gently. Continue with the rest of the whites, ⅓ at a time until fully blended.
Step 5: In a shallow bowl, mix the espresso with 4 tbsp of coffee. Quickly dip (for approximately 2 to 3 seconds) the lady’s fingers into the mixture, at the same time as the other side.
Step 6: In a glass or ceramic dish, lay the ladyfingers into an even layer. Feel free to break some of the biscuits to fit the dish.
Step 7: Over the biscuits, spread out half of the mascarpone mixture and top with grated dark chocolate.
Step 8: Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone. Dust the top with cocoa powder. Place in the fridge to chill for about 6 to 8 hours.
