Cabbage rolls are the best! I have tried a lot of these heavenly treats, but these were probably the best ones I have ever tried! Have a wonderful day, friends. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Tomato Sauce:
2 tablespoons olive oil
½ onion (diced)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
28 oz can crushed tomatoes (do not drain)
15 oz can tomato sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried Italian herbs
Cabbage Rolls:
1 lb ground beef (leaner is better)
1 c cooked rice (white or brown)
1 tbsp onion powder
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried Italian herbs
¼ c fresh parsley (chopped)
1 Egg
1 head cabbage
Directions:
Tomato Sauce:
Step 1: Place a large pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 2: Add in the olive oil and allow it to become hot.
Step 3: Add the onion and sauté for about 2 to 3 minutes or until soft.
Step 4: Add in the garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds or until aromatic.
Step 5: Add in the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian herbs, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed, then allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure to stir occasionally.
Cabbage Rolls:
Step 1: Place a large pot with water on the stove and turn the heat to high, then allow it to boil.
Step 2: Prepared the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Step 3: Add the cabbage into the boiling water and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes or until the leaves fall apart.
Step 4: Remove from the pot and peel about 12 big leaves.
Step 5: In a large mixing bowl, add the rice, ground beef, garlic, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, egg, 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
Step 6: Add in ½ cup of the tomato sauce and stir until well blended.
Step 7: Fill each cabbage leaf with the meat mixture and roll it up.
To Bake:
Step 1: Apply cooking spray in a 9×13-inch pan.
Step 2: Spread tomato sauce on the bottom of the prepared pan.
Step 3: Arrange the cabbage rolls onto the prepared pan and spread the rest of the sauce on top.
Step 4: Cover the pan with aluminium foil.
Step 5: Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 70 to 90 minutes or until done.
Step 6: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the rest of the parsley on top.
Step 7: Serve and enjoy!
