Ingredients:
SAUCE
1 ½ c water
½ can (3 ounces) tomato paste
¼ c soy sauce
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
3 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp Sriracha hot sauce (or to taste)
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp minced ginger
2 tbsp corn starch
CABBAGE AND FILLING
Oil or non-stick cooking spray
Salt
1 large head green cabbage
1 container (12-ounce) broccoli slaw
1 pound ground pork
1 c cooked brown rice
1 bunch of scallions, white and light green part only, chopped, divided
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tbsp minced ginger
¼ c soy sauce
1 large Egg
2 tbsp black sesame seeds
Directions:
For the Sauce:
Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add all the ingredients for the sauce and whisk until well mixed. Let the mixture boil.
Turn the heat down to medium-low, then simmer for about 3 minutes or until the texture of the sauce becomes thick.
Set aside about ¼ cup of the sauce as well as the rest of the sauce to cool.
For the Rolls:
Prepare the oven and preheat to 200 degrees C or 400 degrees F.
Apply cooking spray in a 13×9-inch baking dish.
Place a large pot with salted water on the stove and turn the heat to high. Allow the water to boil.
Prepare the cabbage by removing the outer leaves.
Add 3 leaves into the boiling water, then cook for about 2 minutes. Place them onto a clean plate lined with paper towels and repeat the process with the rest of the cabbage leaves.
Add the broccoli and as soon as it turns bright green, remove it from the water and submerge it into cold water.
In a large mixing bowl with the reserved sauce, add the pork, broccoli, brown rice, ginger, garlic, egg, soy sauce, and 2 tbsp of scallions. Stir until well blended.
Turn each cabbage leaf into a V-shape by slicing through the vein.
Fill each cabbage leaf in the middle with 1/12th of the filling. Fold each cabbage from the sides.
Arrange the cabbage rolls into the greased baking dish.
Pour the rest of the sauce on top of the cabbage rolls. Cover them with foil.
Place the baking dish inside the preheated oven and bake the cabbage rolls for about 45 minutes or until done.
Remove from the oven and allow them to cool for about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle sesame seeds and scallions on top.
Serve and enjoy!
