My kids are crazy over these puppies. This is one of their most requested and they never get tired of eating these delicious hush puppies. Try this and I am pretty sure that your kids will love and enjoy these as much as we do!
Ingredients:
¾ cup self-rising flour
1 cup self-rising cornmeal (not mix)
1 large Egg, lightly beaten
1 small onion, finely minced (or sweet onion)
1 pinch garlic powder
1 pinch onion powder
1 pinch Old Bay seasoning
1 tablespoon sugar
¾ to 1 cup buttermilk
canola oil for frying
Directions:
Step 1: Combine the flour and cornmeal in a large mixing bowl.
Step 2: Stir in the egg, onion, sugar, and spices.
Step 3: Add in the buttermilk. Use a fork to combine until somewhat sticky. If needed, add more buttermilk.
Step 4: Fry the batter in a deep-fryer with hot oil over 375 degrees until golden brown.
Step 5: Once done, remove the hush puppies from the fryer and onto paper towels to drain.
Step 6: if desired, serve hot with honey butter. Enjoy!
