This classic treat is just too perfect! This recipe will only take you about an hour to prepare. Loaded with incredible flavors, this is surely a must-try!
Ingredients:
For the Mashed Potatoes:
⅓ c milk, or to taste
½ c sour cream
¼ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp seasoning salt
5 lbs. of potatoes, peeled and chopped into 1 or 2-inch pieces
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp onion powder
½ tsp pepper
½ c salted butter, 1 stick
For the Beef Mixture:
1 & ½ c beef broth
4 tbsp salted butter, ½ stick
1 c shredded cheddar cheese
1 & ½ c frozen peas
1 & ½ tsp salt, or to taste
1 tsp Better Than Bouillon paste
1 & ½ lbs. of ground beef
½ tsp pepper, or to taste
1 & ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 medium onion, chopped (about 2 c)
1 tbsp cornstarch
4-5 medium carrots, (about 1 and ½ to 2 c)
Directions:
Place a large pot with enough water to submerge the potatoes. Turn the heat to high and allow the water to boil.
Add the potato slices and cook for about 20 to 25 minutes or until tender. Drain and put the potato slices back into the pot.
Add ½ cup of butter over the potato slices, then mash them.
Add milk, seasoning salt, onion powder, sour cream, ½ tsp pepper, 1 tsp salt, and garlic powder over the mashed potatoes. Stir until well blended. Cover the pot with the lid.
Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add 4 tbsp of butter and allow it to melt.
Add the carrots and onions into the hot skillet, then sauté for about 8 minutes or until soft.
Add the ground beef, then cook for 5 minutes or until crumbly and brown. Discard any accumulated grease, then add in the frozen peas.
Mix cornstarch and beef broth to make the slurry, then pour it into the skillet together with Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything until well blended. Cook for 5 more minutes over high heat. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Transfer the meat mixture into a 9×13-inch-deep casserole dish and spread it evenly.
Add the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture layer and spread it evenly until well covered.
Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes.
Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until done.
Broil for about 2 minutes brown the top part.
