Total Time: 1 hr | Yield: 6 Sandwiches
Simple, delicious, and awesome! These three words best describe this Patty Melt! Oh, man, you will surely enjoy every bite of it. My only advice to you is to be very generous with the amount of cheese that you are going to add. Just do it and thank me later! Feel free to add more ingredients and tweak this recipe if you prefer. I know that you can do a lot to take this to the next level! Have the perfect day, friends. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1½ pound ground beef
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
5 tablespoons canola oil
2 yellow onions, halved and thinly sliced
12 slices rye bread
12 thin slices of cheddar, swiss, or American cheese
8 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
Directions:
Sprinkle salt and pepper all over the beef.
Form six even patties out of the ground beef.
Place a 12-inch cast-iron skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Add the onions, salt, and pepper. Saute for about 20 minutes or until they turn brown or caramelized.
Remove the onions from the skillet into a mixing bowl.
Use a paper towel to wipe the skillet clean.
Add 1 tbsp of oil and allow it to become hot. Turn the heat up to high.
Add 2 patties and cook each side for about 2 minutes or until brown. Remove from the skillet onto a clean plate. Repeat the process to the rest of the patties.
Top each bread slice with the caramelized onions, cheese, and patty.
Top each patty with another slice of cheese, then cover it with another bun.
Brush melted butter over each sandwich.
In the same skillet, add the sandwiches and cook each side for about 6 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
Make sure to cook them in batches.
Serve and enjoy!
