This recipe has always been a part of my family since I was a little kid. I remember my grandma used to make these Onion Patties all the time! I am so grateful to her for this recipe because now, I get to share it with you as well! Easy, delicious, and simple. These three words best describe these heavenly treats. Ingredients:
½ c cooking oil I used Canola
2 ½ c chopped onions I used 1 ½ large white onions, chopped
1 c all-purpose flour
1 c milk
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp white granulated sugar
2 tbsp cornmeal self-rising or regular
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, add baking powder, flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well combined.
Add the chopped onions, then stir until well mixed.
Add milk and stir until well mixed.
Place a skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add oil and allow it to become hot.
Spoon the mixture and drop each into the skillet. Gently press each with a spatula to flatten out a bit.
Cook each side for a few minutes until they turn golden brown.
Remove from the skillet onto a clean plate lined with paper liners to drain any excess oil.
Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes:
Feel free to add garlic powder if you prefer.
You can also make it spicy by adding hot sauce or other seasonings.
