I’ve long been a big Candy lover, especially chocolate. This Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge is everything a homemade should be, so get your candy thermometer ready. On the surface, the real old-fashioned chocolate fudge isn’t as creamy as today’s most commonly available varieties and recipes. It gives your tooth a bit of resistance on that first bite and then merges away, smooth and creamy on your tongue.
I was hoping to make a chocolate fudge that I had tried when I was about 9 or 10 years old if I’m not mistaken. I can recall going to the church’s Christmas Bazaar on Saturday afternoon with a few of my school friends. I bought my chocolate fudge dime bag, and I still remember thinking, “this is the best Fudge I’ve ever had.” This fudge melted into your mouth and was a little crumbly. Try this recipe for Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge, and enjoy it with your family and friends.
Ingredients:
2 cups white sugar
½ cup of cocoa
1 cup milk
4 tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Grease an 8×8 inch square baking pan. Set aside.
Add and combine sugar, cocoa, and milk in a medium saucepan. Add and stir to blend, then bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer. Do not stir again.
Put a candy thermometer in pan and cook until temperature reaches 238 degrees F(114 degrees C). If you don’t use a thermometer, cook until a drop of this mixture in a cup of cold water constitutes a softball. Feel the ball using your fingers to ensure consistency is correct. It should flatten when pressed between your fingers.
Remove from heat. Add butter or margarine and vanilla extract. Beat until the fudge loses its sheen with a wooden spoon. Make sure not to under beat.
Pour into prepared pan and let cool. Cut into about 60 squares.
