1 lb. Ground Beef (we used ground round don’t use anything too lean; we want some fat for flavour)
1 egg slightly beaten
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp Black Pepper
Canola Oil for frying – enough to cover the bottom of a large, deep skillet with ¼ – ½ inch of oil (about 1½ c)
For the Gravy:
3 tbsp Flour
½ c Half & Half
3 tbsp Butter
2 c Beef Broth
Directions:
For the Meatballs:
In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, egg, bread crumbs, salt, and pepper. Use your clean hands to mix everything until well combined.
Form 20 small meatballs out of the mixture.
Place a large deep skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Add about 1 ½ cups of oil and allow it to become hot.
Add the meatballs into the hot oil and cook for 5 minutes or until all sides turn brown.
Remove from the heat. Transfer the meatballs onto a clean plate and cover them with foil.
For the Gravy:
Discard the oil from the skillet, then put it back onto the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add butter and allow it to melt.
Add the flour, then stir and cook for about a minute.
Gradually pour in the broth, then stir until well blended. Simmer for a few minutes.
Put the meatballs back to the skillet and toss until well coated with the sauce. Reduce the heat to medium-low.
Cover the skillet with a lid and cook the meatballs for about 15 minutes or until done. Make sure to stir from time to time.
Add the half & half, then stir until well blended.
Reduce the heat to low and cook the meatballs for another 3 minutes.
Add more seasonings if necessary.
Serve over egg noodles or mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
