This Homemade Pastrami is insanely delicious! Cooked the oven, you don’t need a smoker for this recipe! Just follow these easy steps for they will guide you to perfection. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
4 pounds / 2kg good corned beef, with a thick fat cap
SPICE MIX:
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons mustard powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
2 tablespoons coriander powder
2 tablespoons liquid smoke (optional)
4 tablespoons fresh coarsely ground black pepper
2 teaspoons onion powder
Directions:
Add all the ingredients for the spice mix into a mixing bowl. Whisk until well blended.
Transfer the spice mix onto a baking tray and spread it evenly.
Use paper towels to pat dry the beef.
Add the beef onto the tray with the spice mix, then toss until well coated. (You can now add liquid smoke over the beef if you wish.)
Double wrap the seasoned beef with aluminium foil, fat cap side down.
Put a rack in a slow cooker, then add the beef onto the rack.
Cover and seal the slow cooker, then cook the beef for about 10 hours on a low setting.
Remove the beef from the slow cooker, then place it inside the fridge to cool for about 6 hours. Leave the accumulated juice in the slow cooker.
Unwrap the beef, then put it back onto a tray.
Place it inside the oven and bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Remove from the oven, then slice it into thin pieces.
Serve with the reserved juice. Enjoy!
Notes:
You can bake this in the oven for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Place any leftovers in an airtight container, then place them inside the fridge. They can last up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven.
