INGREDIENTS
¾ lb ground pork
2 tsp vegetable oil
3 c. coleslaw mix
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp minced ginger
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
¼ c. sliced green onions
1 tbsp soy sauce
12 egg roll wrappers
oil for frying
1 egg, beaten
salt and pepper to taste
How to make Homemade Egg Rolls
Step 1: In a large pan, heat 2 tsp vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the ground pork to the pan and season with salt and pepper. Cook the meat, breaking it into small chunks using a spatula until cooked through and browned. Then, add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Step 2: To the pan with the ground beef and garlic, add the coleslaw mix and green onions. Stir and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes until the cabbage is wilted. Stir in the soy sauce along with the sesame oil. When done, take the pan off the heat.
Step 3: Onto each egg roll wrapper, spoon about 2 to 3 tbsp of the filling. Following the package direction, fold the wrapper, sealing the edges using the beaten egg.
Step 4: Into a deep pot, pour 2 to 3 inches of oil, and heat to 350 degrees. Drop 3 to 4 egg rolls at a time and fry for about 3 to 5 minutes, turning occasionally until browned. On paper towels, transfer the fried egg rolls.
Step 5: Serve the homemade egg rolls right away with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
NOTES:
1. For this recipe, you can use ground chicken in place of pork.
2. To bake the egg rolls, coat them with cooking spray and bake for about 15 to 20 minutes at 425 degrees F until crispy and browned.
