This Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp reminds me of the famous shrimp you get from food trucks in Hawaii. This rich, garlicky, and butter-based sauce, garlic shrimp is the best shrimp ever! Incredibly easy to make using just a few simple ingredients and ready in a snap! We love to serve this Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp over rice, spoon the extra sauces on top, and garnished with more garlic. But you can also serve this garlic shrimp with steamed or roasted veggies, even pasta.
For best results, make sure not to burn the garlic to avoid a bitter taste. Before seasoning, pat dries the shrimp to make sure the mixture won’t clump up. And overcooking the shrimp is a big no! I like to finish the dish off with a touch of fresh lemon.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
¼ c. (slightly packed) minced fresh garlic (nearly 1 medium head)
1 pound extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 ½ teaspoons paprika
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, diced into 1 tablespoon pieces
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley (optional)
⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
How to make Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp
Step 1: Dab both sides of the shrimp with paper towels. In a bowl, place the shrimp and sprinkle it with flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper. Toss well until the shrimp are evenly coated.
Step 2: In a large 12-inch non-stick skillet, melt the butter with olive oil. Once melted, add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring often, until aromatic.
Step 3: In the skillet, add the shrimp in an even layer and cook for about 2 minutes on the first side until pinkish. Flip and continue to another side for another 2 minutes until just cooked.
Step 4: Take the skillet off the heat when done and toss the shrimp with lemon. If desired, garnish with some parsley. Serve the Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp topped with the extra garlic butter sauce from the pan. Enjoy!
