This Onion Soup was the recipe of my Grandma. I remember her preparing this all the time whenever we came to visit her. She was such a nice person. I am so glad that she taught me this recipe because now, I get to serve it to my kids. They love it so much that is why I cook it pretty much every day! You need this in your life. Ingredients:
6 medium yellow onions, sliced
1 tbsp garlic powder
2 (32 oz) containers Beef Broth – low sodium
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp Kosher salt
2 sprigs Fresh Thyme
2 sticks butter
1 tsp Better Than Bouillon Beef Base
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
Toppings:
Grated Swiss Cheese
Croutons (homemade or store-bought)
Directions:
Step 1: Place a large pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 2: Add in the butter and allow it to melt.
Step 3: Add in the onions and fresh thyme. Saute for about 25 to 30 minutes until the onions are translucent.
Step 4: Remove the onions and thyme and set aside.
Step 5: Add flour into the onion-thyme mixture.
Step 6: Add in the beef broth, garlic powder, kosher salt, beef base, and salt into the pot. Stir until well mixed.
Step 7: Allow it to simmer for about 45 minutes or until done.
Step 8: Transfer the soup into an ovenproof bowl.
Step 9: Top it with grated Swiss cheese and croutons.
Step 10: Broil it for several minutes or until the cheese is melted completely.
Step 11: Serve and enjoy!
Note:
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
