These baked french, onion, chicken tenders are one of my family’s favorite meals! It is seriously easy and quick to make with chicken tenderloins topped with sour cream French onion dip, cheese, and french fried onions. Make this amazing dish in minutes and serve this over potatoes, rice, or pasta for a deliciously filling meal that everyone will love! Leftovers are great, too!
I love easy recipes that I can easily make even on the busiest days. And these baked french, onion, chicken tenders have been one of my go-to for years! We love to serve this over rice with some green beans on the side. My kids also enjoy this over mashed potatoes or noodles. Make sure not to forget to spoon the sauce/gravy into the baking dish on top of the chicken!
Ingredients
1½ c. shredded cheddar cheese, divided
2 lbs chicken tenders
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 (3-ounces) can of French fried onions
1 (12-ounces) container of refrigerated sour cream French onion dip
HOW TO MAKE FRENCH ONION SMOTHERED CHICKEN
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees F. Using cooking spray, grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Step 2: In the prepared baking dish, lay the chicken close together and sprinkle it with garlic salt and onion powder.
Step 3: On top of the chicken, sprinkle half a cup of cheddar cheese. In a thick layer, spread the french onion dip over the chicken.
Step 4: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes.
Step 5: Remove from the oven when done and top the chicken with the rest of the cheese and fried onions. Return to the oven and continue to bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
NOTES:
I do not recommend using jarred french onion dip. Only use refrigerated sour cream-based french onion dips like Dean’s, Great Value, Barber’s, Heluva Good Dip, or Kraft.
You can swap sour cream dip with the equivalent portion of sour cream with some Lipton’s onion soup mix. Mix well.
For this recipe, you can use any boneless chicken, such as tenderloins, breasts, or thighs. If using thighs or breasts, adjust the cooking time accordingly. Note that tenderloin cooks faster.
Into strips, cut the chicken breasts and cook them at about the same time as tenderloins.
