The best food is homemade, yet there are times when we just don’t have the time. If we have a really hectic day or just don’t feel like cooking, I prefer to have some prepared meatballs in the freezer. I used Italian meatballs from Costco in this dish. It’s a big bag, but there are plenty of simple dinners you can whip up with its ingredients. My family loves this crockpot meal, and it’s become one of my most-famous recipes!
Homemade meatballs are another option. Lean ground beef or turkey can be substituted. In place of deep-frying, you may bake them instead (at 375 degrees for 45 minutes). This dish is great for large gatherings as well as intimate home dinners. The components are affordable, and the preparation time is minimal.
Ingredients
1 15-ounce can of unsweetened pineapple chunks, drained BUT saving the juice
3 pounds packaged of precooked, frozen meatballs
1 c. sliced red bell pepper
1 c. sliced green bell pepper
2 tablespoons soy sauce
⅔ c. white vinegar
1 c. brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
How to make Crockpot Hawaiian Meatballs
Step 1: Into a crockpot, place the meatballs. On top, add the bell peppers and pineapple chunks.
Step 2: To make the sauce, whisk the reserved pineapple juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, vinegar, and soy sauce until well blended.
Step 3: Over the meatballs, pour the sauce. Set to cook for 3 to 4 hours on low.
Step 4: Right before serving, give the meatballs a quick stir. Serve with rice for a filling weeknight meal. These meatballs are also amazing to serve at parties or potlucks. Enjoy!
Note:
Do not worry if the sauce is runny. You can thicken it if desired by using cornstarch. Whisk 2 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp cold water until well combined. Then, gradually stir this into the sauce in the last 10 minutes of cooking.
