Super indulgent and a great appetizer or finger food option. These spicy and tasty crispy baked buffalo tofu wings are super easy to make. You can also serve these on top of a salad!
Ingredients
¼ c. plant milk
1 pound extra firm or super firm tofu
6 tablespoons cornstarch, arrowroot, or tapioca starch
Bread Crumb Mixture:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 c. panko-style bread crumbs
½ teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon fresh minced parsley
½ teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
Buffalo Sauce:
⅛ teaspoon granulated garlic
3 tablespoons (35 grams) of vegan butter
⅛ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons (90 grams) red cayenne pepper hot sauce, ideally Franks RedHot
To serve:
Vegan bleu cheese or ranch-style dressing
How to make Crispy Baked Buffalo Tofu Wings
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 425 degrees F. Ready a large rimmed baking sheet. Lightly grease and set aside.
Step 2: Press out the extra water if using extra-firm tofu. Into 6 width-wise slabs, cut the tofu. Using a lint-free towel or paper towel, wrap the tofu. On top of the wrapped tofu, place some weights such as a heavy cast iron skillet or books atop a baking sheet. Allow draining of the extra water for approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 3: Into 18 wings or half sticks, slice the tofu. If you have not already for pressing, cut the block of tofu into 6 width-wise slices. Then, into 3 lengthwise slices, cut each of the slabs.
Step 4: In a bowl, place the cornstarch or arrowroot, or tapioca starch. In another bowl, place the plant milk. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumb mixture. On a plate, put some of the breadcrumb mixtures.
Step 5: Into the starch, dip each tofu wing, coat in the milk, and roll in the breadcrumbs on the plate. Onto the prepared baking sheet, place the coated wing. Do the same for the rest of the wings. As needed, you can add more breadcrumb mixture to the plate.
Step 6: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes. Turn the wings over and continue baking for another 10 to 15 minutes or until the tofu wings are crispy.
Step 7: In the meantime, melt the vegan butter. Once melted, whisk in the hot sauce along with the granulated garlic, and salt to make the buffalo sauce.
Step 8: In a large mixing bowl, place the tofu wings and pour the buffalo sauce over them. Toss to coat.
Step 9: Serve the buffalo tofu wings right away. Enjoy!
Note:
If you have leftover buffalo tofu wings, you can reheat them in the oven before serving.
If using a convection oven, bake the tofu wings for about 30 to 35 minutes, flipping them halfway through baking.
