Classic Bruschetta is a great and fun appetizer. A crowd-pleasing tomato bruschetta that you can easily make at any time. Feel free to customize this recipe to your heart’s desire! I add some cheese on top for extra flavor.
INGREDIENTS
TOMATOES:
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
¼ cup thinly sliced basil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
4 large tomatoes, diced
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon kosher salt
BREAD:
1 large baguette, sliced ¼-inch thick on the bias
2 cloves garlic, halved
Extra-virgin olive oil, for brushing
How to Make Classic Bruschetta
Step 1: In a skillet over low-medium heat, add the oil. Once the oil is hot, add the garlic and saute until golden. Set aside to cool.
Step 2: In a big bowl, place the tomatoes, vinegar, basil, red pepper flakes, and salt. Mix well, then add the oil and garlic from the skillet. Set this aside for about an hour.
Step 3: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees.
Step 4: Lightly coat two sides of bread with oil. Place them on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until golden, turning the bread halfway.
Step 5: Once done, remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool for a couple of minutes. On top of the bread, place halved cloves of garlic, then coat the top of the bread with tomatoes.
Step 6: Serve and enjoy!
Tips:
You can store this bruschetta mix in the fridge for up to 1 week. This is also a great freezer meal. Simply grab a new bread and cover the top with bruschetta mix. Freeze for later.
You do not have to add too much bruschetta mix to the bread. A spoonful is more than enough.
Bruschetta is a fun appetizer and an amazing before-dinner treat. You can also serve this with pasta. If desired, you can top the bruschetta with some cheese such as ricotta or Parmesan cheese.
