This recipe is a classic! My Grandma made this all the time! It’s very simple and very easy. This is perfect to serve over Biscuits, steamed rice or mashed potatoes! Give it a try and I am 100 per cent certain that you and your kids are going to love it! You can use your preferred kind of sausage for this dish as long as it’s perfectly seasoned. I hope this recipe somehow brings a big smile to your faces today. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 (12 ounces) package maple-flavoured sausage
3 tbsp butter
¼ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
salt and pepper to taste
¼ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Step 1: Place a large broad pan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 2: Add the sausage and cook until the colour turns brown.
Step 3: Remove the cooked sausage and place it in a clean bowl.
Step 4: Remove the pan from the heat and add the butter. Allow it to melt with all the sausage grease.
Step 5: Put the pan back to the heat. Add flour and whisk until well mixed and light brown.
Step 6: Moderately add in milk and whisk until you achieve your preferred thickness.
Step 7: Add in the cooked sausage and stir until well mixed. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 8: Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes or until heated through. If the gravy gets too thick, add more milk and stir.
Step 9: Remove from the heat. Serve and enjoy!
Notes:
I prefer using seasoned sausage for this recipe.
Make sure not to discard the sausage grease because they make the gravy taste superb!
You can top it with a soft egg if you prefer.
