Meatloaf has always been a part of our weekly menu rotation. I have tried different varieties of meatballs, and I can say that by now, I have already chosen my favorites. One of them is this meatloaf recipe. It is super easy to make using just a couple of simple ingredients and guarantees one of the best meatloaves I have ever made!
This meatloaf recipe is also versatile. You can enjoy a plain meatloaf and stick with this recipe or use a meatloaf mix (beef and pork, beef, pork, and lamb) for a more unique texture. You can also throw in some green pepper or mushrooms into the mix for added flavor. For a filling, family-friendly meal, serve this meatloaf with mashed potatoes and your favorite veggies.
Ingredients
1 egg
1 onion, chopped
1 ½ lbs ground beef
1 c. milk
1 c. dried bread crumbs
2 tbsp prepared mustard
2 tbsp brown sugar
⅓ c. ketchup
Salt and pepper to taste
HOW TO MAKE THE BEST MEATLOAF
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F or 175 degrees C.
Step 2: In a large mixing dish, place the meat, egg, onion, milk, and bread crumbs. Mix well until combined. To taste, season with salt and pepper. In a lightly greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan or baking dish, transfer the mixture.
Step 3: Whisk the brown sugar, mustard, and ketchup in another small bowl until well blended. Then, pour this over the meatloaf.
Step 4: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about an hour.
Step 5: Remove from the oven when done, and serve the meatloaf right away. Enjoy!
Tips:
If desired, you can saute the onion and garlic in salted butter. But it is optional as this recipe requires finely diced onions.
For a more unique texture, you can use a meatloaf mix (beef and pork, beef, pork, and lamb) in place of just a plain meatloaf.
For added flavor, you are welcome to add green pepper or mushrooms.
