The best indeed! This awesome recipe is so easy to prepare! The combination of all the flavors complements very well with each other to make the perfect dish! This Best-Ever Macaroni and Cheese is to die for!
Ingredients:
6 tbsp all-purpose flour
3 ½ c milk
1 ¾ c heavy cream
16 oz. uncooked large elbow macaroni, large shells, or Cavatappi pasta
6 tbsp salted butter
⅓ c grated yellow onion
4 oz. extra-sharp yellow Cheddar cheese, shredded (about 1 c), plus 4 ounces diced (about 1 c), divided
2 tsp dry mustard
⅛ tsp freshly grated nutmeg
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
4 oz. sharp white Cheddar cheese, shredded, (about 1 cup), plus 4 ounces diced (about 1 c), divided
⅛ tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp black pepper
Directions:
Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Apply cooking spray to a 13×9-inch baking dish.
Refer to the directions provided on the pasta package on how to cook it.
Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add butter and allow it to melt.
Add the onion, mustard, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper. Stir and cook for half a minute.
Add flour, then whisk and cook for about two minutes to remove the raw taste.
Add cream and milk, then whisk until well blended. Allow the mixture to boil while whisking from time to time.
Turn the heat down to medium-low, then simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes or until the texture turns a little thick.
Add Worcestershire sauce, then stir until well blended.
Remove the pan from the heat, then add ¾ cup of shredded cheese and stir until melted completely.
Add the cooked pasta and cheese slices, then toss until well coated.
Transfer the pasta mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until the top turns golden brown.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the rest of the shredded cheese on top. Broil for another 2 minutes.
Remove from the oven and allow it to cool at room temperature for a couple of minutes.
Serve warm and enjoy!
