Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
(2) eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp hot water
½ tsp salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts
Directions:
Preheat oven 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Add and cream butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
In the preheated oven, bake for about 10 minutes until edges turn nicely brown.
Notes:
Use cold cubed butter if you like thicker cookies, and less spread. You can also remove the butter from the fridge, put it in a microwave-safe bowl, and then place it in the microwave for 5-8 seconds or so. It must be sufficiently firm to cut into cubes but just soft enough to blend well with the sugar.
Use your favorite chocolate chip type — semi-sweet, chocolate with milk, or a combination of both. I enjoy chopping up a high-quality chocolate bar because it melts so perfectly, too.
