If you are having guests over, then you need to prepare this recipe! This Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham is a very simple recipe. Everyone is going to love the rich flavors in each bite of this awesome dish. Don’t forget to share this recipe with them as well. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
¾ teaspoon dried rosemary
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon dried thyme
½ teaspoon sage
½ c Gruyere cheese, shredded
1 c cooked ham, diced
4 tbsp butter
1 yellow onion, sliced into strings
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 c cheddar cheese, shredded
6 medium Yukon Gold Potatoes
Cheese Sauce
¼ c all-purpose flour
1 ½ c half and half, or milk
Topping/Garnish:
1 tbsp Fresh Parsley, roughly chopped
¼ c Parmesan, finely grated into a powder
Directions:
For the Cheese Sauce:
Shred the cheddar cheese and Gruyere cheese, then put them into a mixing bowl. Make sure to place them at room temperature.
Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add butter and allow it to melt.
Add the onions into the hot pan, then cook for about 20 minutes or until they caramelize.
Add the garlic, then sauté for a minute or until aromatic.
Add the flour gradually and whisk every addition. Whisk and cook for about a minute to remove the raw taste.
Heat the milk inside the microwave for about 30 seconds.
Pour the milk into the saucepan and stir until well blended.
Add sage, oregano, thyme, and rosemary. Stir until well blended. Simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat.
Add the reserved shredded cheese and half of the Gruyere, then stir until well blended and melted completely.
Add ham and stir until well incorporated.
To Assemble:
Prepare the oven and preheat to 200 degrees C or 400 degrees F.
Thinly slice the peeled potatoes.
Apply cooking spray to a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
Lay the potato slices into the prepared casserole dish, overlapping each other. Sprinkle salt and pepper to season.
Add ⅓ of the cheese on top of the potatoes.
Repeat the process until everything is arranged in layers.
Sprinkle the rest of the cheese over.
Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until done.
