Ingredients
1 to 2 tbsp butter (for sauteing onions)
5 cans of pork and beans (15 oz. cans – VanCamp’s Pork and Beans or similar)
½ c. molasses
2 medium or 1 large onion, chopped (yellow or sweet onion, not Vidalia)
¾ c. ketchup
3 tbsp yellow mustard
6 to 8 slices of uncooked bacon, each cut in half or thirds
¼ to ½ c. brown sugar (use less for less sweetness)
HOW TO MAKE ANASTASIA’S BEST-EVER BAKED BEANS
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 325 degrees F. Using non-stick cooking spray, grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Step 2: In butter, saute the onions over medium to medium-high heat until softened and translucent.
Step 3: Combine the beans with sauteed onions, ketchup, mustard, molasses, and brown sugar until well mixed. Into the prepared baking dish, transfer the mixture and top the uncooked bacon in a single layer.
Step 4: Place the dish on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for about 2 to 3 hours, uncovered, until the top of the beans has caramelized and dark.
Step 5: Take the dish out of the oven when done and serve warm. Enjoy!
Slow Cooker:
Throw this together in your slow cooker and cook for 6 to 8 hours on low. Note that the top will not get that nice caramelized effect. If making in a slow cooker, saute the onions first and use pre-cook bacon.
