Ingredients:
2 tbsp butter
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 tbsp cornstarch
½ tsp Kosher salt
1 c beef broth
1 small green bell pepper, diced
2 tbsp ketchup
8 oz. Provolone Cheese Slices chopped (use 6oz if you don’t want it very cheesy)
½ tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 small yellow onion, diced
6 brioche hamburger buns
8 oz. brown mushrooms, minced
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Directions:
Place a large cast-iron skillet onto the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Add the ground beef into the hot skillet, then cook for a few minutes until crumbly and brown. Transfer the browned beef onto a clean plate.
In the same empty skillet, add butter and allow it to melt.
Add bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions into the skillet, then sauté for a few minutes until soft and caramelized.
Put the browned beef back into the skillet together with salt, pepper, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything until well combined.
Add slurry and stir until well blended. Simmer the mixture for a few minutes until thick.
Remove the skillet from the stove, then add the provolone cheese and stir until melted completely.
Serve on toasted buns. Enjoy!
Notes:
Slow Cooker Method:
In a slow cooker, add all the ingredients aside from the buns and cheese.
Cover and seal the slow cooker, then cook everything for about 4 hours on a low setting.
Add slurry, then stir until well mixed. Cook for 30 more minutes.
