In my opinion, cabbage is such an underrated vegetable. It’s inexpensive, available throughout the year, and delicious to the max. This simple fried cabbage preparation is a classic recipe which pairs green cabbage with bacon. After you have tried it, you can not stop eating it. Also, even if you don’t think you like cabbage, you certainly have to try this recipe because it’s completely good, very simple to make, and heartfelt enough to be your meal.
It is a staple in our family, the recipe place into every cookbook that my children can use when they move out and get married. It’s a lovely dish full of flavors and many colors. Note, they are addictive.
Ingredients:
(6) slices Pork, cured, bacon, raw
(1) large onions, raw
(2) cloves Garlic, raw
(1) large head Cabbage, raw
1 tbsp of salt, table
1 tsp spices, pepper, black
½ tsp spices, onion powder
½ tsp spices, garlic powder
⅛ tsp spices, paprika
Directions:
Add and place the bacon in a large stockpot and cook over medium-high heat until crispy, about 10 minutes. Add the onion and garlic, and then cook and stir until the onion caramelizes for 10 minutes. Immediately stir in the cabbage and continue to cook and stir another 10 minutes. Add and season with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
Note:
You can serve it with corned beef, pot roast, grilled chicken or pork. I guarantee it goes well. It is possible to make fried cabbage in various ways, but my favorite way is to fry it with bacon and onions.
A core of cabbage is usually tough and not ideal for eating, so you’ll want to remove your core of cabbage before you continue with the recipe. Cut the cabbage head in half to core the cabbage, and use a knife to slice around the core to remove it.
