Ingredients
Steaks:
1 egg
1 lb ground beef
½ tsp garlic powder
1 tsp soy sauce
½ tsp onion powder
⅓ c. bread crumbs
4 tbsp butter, divided
½ tsp pepper
¼ tsp salt
Sauce:
8 oz. mushrooms, sliced
1 tsp garlic, minced
1 c. sweet onion, thinly sliced
3 tbsp flour
1½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 c. beef broth
chopped parsley, for garnish
Salt and pepper, to taste
How to make Hamburger Steak
Step 1: Place the ground beef, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, salt, bread crumbs, and egg in a large bowl. Mix well until just combined. Then, form the mixture into four equal patties.
Step 2: melt 2 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once melted, add the ground beef patties and sear for about 4 minutes per side until browned. On a plate, transfer the patties and set them aside.
Step 3: In the same skillet, melt the rest of the 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the sliced onions along with the mushrooms. Saute for about 5 to 6 minutes or until the mushrooms are tender. Then, add the garlic and cook for another minute.
Step 4: Over the mushrooms sprinkle the flour. Stir and cook for another minute.
Step 5: Pour in the broth and Worcestershire sauce. To taste, season with salt and pepper. Continue to cook for 5 to 6 minutes more, stirring often.
Step 6: Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet along with the juices, Spoon the gravy over the steak. Put the lid on. Decrease the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
Step 7: Take the lid off and continue to cook for another 10 to 15 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
Step 8: Serve the Hamburger Steak right away garnished with some chopped parsley. Enjoy!
Notes:
You can make this recipe about 8 hours ahead of time.
Feel free to shape the patties a little bigger as they will still shrink while cooking.
If desired, garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
