INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp butter
2 pounds of ground beef
4 c. green cabbage, shredded
1 ½ c. Mozzarella cheese, grated
1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
2 packages of refrigerated crescent rolls (do not separate rolls)
How to make Runza Casserole
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F. Using a nonstick spray, grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and set aside.
Step 2: Do not separate the unrolled tube of crescent rolls. In the bottom of the prepared baking dish, lay the sheet. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 5 minutes.
Step 3: Place the seasoned ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear until brown. Then, drain the excess grease as needed. To the outer edges of the skillet, push the meat. In the center, add the butter. Let it melt and add the onions and season with salt and pepper. Continue to cook while stirring for about 2 minutes.
Step 4: Then, add the cabbage and continue to cook for another 5 minutes until wilted. As needed, adjust the seasoning.
Step 5: Over the baked crescent rolls, spread the mixture and sprinkle with mozzarella. On top, lay the rest of the crescent roll dough sheet.
Step 6: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the top of the casserole is golden brown.
Step 7: Remove from the oven when done and allow the casserole to rest for about 5 minutes.
Step 8: Serve and enjoy!
