This Jailhouse Rice is a great rice dish. No, this is nothing like prison food. It’s an amazing rice dish made with just a few simple ingredients. It is packed with tender rice, sausage, beef, and cans of onion & celery soup. You have to give this a try before you judge.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound sausage (I use ‘Hot’)
1 pound lean ground beef
2 c. finely diced celery
1 tsp garlic powder
1 large onion, finely diced
2 14.5-ounce cans of chicken broth
1 10.5-ounce can cream of onion soup
1 10.5-ounce can cream of celery soup
2 c. long-grain white rice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
How to make Jailhouse Rice
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees. Using cooking spray, grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish and set aside.
Step 2: Into a large skillet, place the ground beef, sausage, salt, pepper, and garlic. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking the beef into pieces as it cooks.
Step 3: Add the onion and celery to the skillet once the meat is about half cooked and continue to cook until the meat is completely cooked and the veggies are tender. DO NOT DRAIN.
Step 4: Combine the broth and soups in another bowl until smooth. Pout this into the skillet, stirring until the mixture begins to bubble.
Step 5: Next, add the rice, stirring it gently. Into the prepared baking dish, transfer everything and tightly cover with aluminum foil. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour.
Step 6: Take the dish out of the oven when done and allow the casserole to rest for about 15 minutes, covered.
Step 7: Then, take the foil off and fluff the rice using a fork.
Step 8: Serve and enjoy!
NOTES:
For this recipe, use uncooked rice.
Do not prep the condensed soup. Use it straight from the can.
To ensure the moisture stays inside cook the rice completely, and tightly cover the dish with foil.
