INGREDIENTS
1 (9”) pie crust
Pie Filling:
1 large egg
1 c. sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 c. heavy whipping cream
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 large baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced ½” thick
Streusel topping:
½ tsp ground ginger
1 stick cold, unsalted butter, cubed
½ c. flour
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp kosher salt
½ c. granulated sugar
½ c. brown sugar
How to make Apple Streusel Pie
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Into a 9-inch round baking dish, press the pie crust.
Step 3: To make the streusel topping, whisk the brown sugar, granulated sugar, ½ c flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, ginger, salt, and cubed butter using your clean fingers until crumbly. Set aside.
Step 4: In a bowl, combine 1 c sugar, 2 tbsp flour, ½ tsp cinnamon, and ¼ tsp nutmeg until well blended.
Step 5: In a large bowl, place the egg, heavy cream, and vanilla. Beat well until blended. Then, add the sugar and mix until incorporated. Around the pie shell, evenly distribute the apple slices. On top, pour the liquid mixture until the pie shell is about ¾ full.
Step 6: On a baking sheet, place the pie and bake in the preheated oven for about 18 to 20 minutes. When done, take the pie out of the oven. On top of the pie, evenly spread the streusel mixture. Resume baking for another 45 to 50 minutes.
Step 7: Take the pie out of the oven and onto a wire rack to cool fully.
Step 8: Slice and serve. Enjoy!
