INGREDIENTS
6 ½ c. Flour
2 tbsp Yeast
½ c. Warm Water
3 tbsp Sugar
2 c. Hot Water
⅓ c. Oil
1 egg for brushing on bread
2 ½ tsp Salt
How to make Homemade Bakery French Bread
Step 1: Place the yeast in a small bowl. Dissolve it in half a cup of water (use warm water only). Allow it to proof for about 10 minutes.
Step 2: Place the hot water, sugar, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour in another mixing bowl. Mix well until well blended, then add the yeast mixture.
Step 3: Into the bowl, add the rest of the flour, 1 c at a time, stirring after each addition. Then, allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes.
Step 4: Into 3 pieces, divide the dough. Into a 9 x 12-inch rectangle, roll each dough like a jelly roll on a floured surface. Then, form the dough into a French bread loaf, smoothing the edges.
Step 5: On a greased baking pan or a Silpat, place the dough, seam side down. Create 3 to 4 diagonal cuts about ¼ inch thick on the bread using a knife. Then, brush the top of the loaf with the beaten egg. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 30 to 40 minutes, uncovered.
Step 6: Place in a preheated 375 degrees oven and bake the bread for about 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown.
