I have the pickiest eaters and it’s always a struggle to let them eat healthily. This Southern classic fried cabbage with bacon, onion, and garlic is a great option for them to eat their veggies. Plus, this is insanely easy and quick to make using just a few simple ingredients! I love this recipe!
My kids never touched their veggies. Whenever I serve them a dish that has veggies on it, they just push them aside. Cabbage has the worst reputation, along with Brussels sprouts. They hated cabbage! The reason why I was hesitant to try this recipe at first was. But I am glad I did because this does wonder! My kids loved this fried cabbage with bacon, onion, and garlic! This dish might not be the healthiest choice because of the bacon grease, but this dish is wonderful! My kids enjoy this as much as me!
Ingredients
3 tablespoons butter
4 strips thick-cut bacon, diced
1 onion, diced
1 head cabbage, diced
1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
6 cloves garlic, diced
HOW TO MAKE FRIED CABBAGE WITH BACON ONION AND GARLIC
Step 1: Into thick chunks, cut the bacon and cook them until crispy. Set the bacon aside when done.
Step 2: Melt the butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once melted, add the diced onions and cook for about 4 minutes or until tender and transparent. Then, add the garlic and continue to cook for another 3 minutes or until aromatic. Next, add the cabbage and season with salt. Stir well and cook the cabbage for additional 10 minutes until reduced by half, stirring often. Add the bacon to the pan.
Step 3: Once the cabbage is translucent with browned bits, take the pan off the heat. Serve right away. Enjoy!
