This recipe I am sharing with you today is a kind of classic one! My grandma used to make this dish all the time when I was growing up. Now, allow me to share it with you! All you need for this recipe are 9 simple ingredients that I’m pretty sure you already have! Enjoy the amazing flavors in each spoonful of this Brown Sugar and Bacon Baked Beans dish!
Ingredients:
1 chopped yellow onion
½ chopped green pepper
2 tsp of dry mustard
¼ c cider vinegar
54 oz. can of pork and beans
⅔ c of brown sugar
4 tbsp of ketchup
¼ c molasses
10 slices of bacon in half
Directions:
Place a skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium. Add the bacon and cook for a few minutes just until they crisp up.
Do not overcook. Transfer them onto a clean plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.
In the same skillet with 2 tbsp of bacon grease, add green pepper and onions. Saute for a few minutes until soft and translucent.
Add the remaining ingredients into the pan, then stir everything until well incorporated. Simmer the mixture for about a minute.
Prepare the oven and preheat it to 325 degrees F.
Apply cooking spray to a baking pan.
Transfer the contents of the skillet to the prepared baking pan and spread them evenly. Place the bacon over the beans.
Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 2 to 3 hours.
Remove from the oven and allow the dish to rest for at least 5 minutes at room temperature.
Serve warm. Enjoy!
Notes:
For a spicy version, try adding chili powder or just simply use jalapenos instead of bell peppers.
Place any leftovers in an airtight container, then put them in the fridge. Reheat for a few minutes before serving again.
