1 large (1) Egg
1 lb. (454 g) ground beef
½ tsp (2.5 ml) garlic salt
1 tsp (5 ml) onion powder
¼ c (30 g) breadcrumbs
½ tsp (2.5 ml) mustard powder
2 tsp (10 ml) Worcestershire sauce
¼ tsp (1.25 ml) kosher salt
lots fresh ground black pepper, or to taste
FOR THE MUSHROOM GRAVY
2 cloves (2 cloves) garlic, minced
¼-1/2 c (30-60 g) flour, depending on how thick you like your gravy
3 tbsp (30 g) butter
1 (1) medium onion, sliced
8 oz. (227 g) mushrooms, sliced
kosher salt or sea salt, or to taste
black pepper to taste
3 c (720 ml) broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)
Directions:
Add the breadcrumbs, beef, garlic salt, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce into a large mixing bowl. Stir until well combined, then form the mixture into 4 even patties.
Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Add oil and allow it to become hot.
Add the patties and sear each side for a minute or until they turn brown.
Remove the patties from the skillet and transfer them onto a clean plate.
In the same skillet, add the onion and mushrooms. Sauté for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Add butter and allow it to melt, then add the garlic and sauté until aromatic.
Add the flour, then stir and cook for a minute.
Add 1 cup of beef stock, then stir until well blended.
Turn the heat up to high, then add the rest of the broth and stir until well blended. Sprinkle salt and pepper to season.
Turn the heat down to low, then simmer for about 5 minutes or until the texture of the gravy becomes thick.
Put the steak back into the skillet and toss until well coated by the gravy. Add more seasonings if needed.
Serve over pasta or rice. Enjoy!
