Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
½ pound ground sausage, hot or sweet
3 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp flour
1 c chicken broth
1 c half and half
½ c Parmesan cheese, finely grated and at room temp.
1 heaping tbsp cream cheese, at room temp.
¾-lb refrigerated tortellini
1 c cherry tomatoes, halved
⅓ c firmly packed basil leaves, chiffonade
1 pinch red pepper flakes, optional
Directions:
Step 1: Place a large pan on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Step 2: Add olive oil and allow it to become hot.
Step 3: Add the sausage and cook until crumbly and brown.
Step 4: Remove the sausage from the heat to a clean plate.
Step 5: Discard any excess grease from the pan.
Step 6: Turn the heat down to medium. Add butter and allow it to melt.
Step 7: Add garlic and sauté until aromatic.
Step 8: Add flour, then whisk and cook for about a minute.
Step 9: Add half & half and chicken broth. Stir until well mixed, then turn the heat up to high. Allow the mixture to boil.
Step 10: Turn the heat down to low and simmer for a few minutes.
Step 11: Add Parmesan cheese and whisk until well mixed.
Step 12: Add the tomatoes and tortellini. Stir until just mixed.
Step 13: Allow the mixture to boil for about 7 minutes.
Step 14: Add the sausage, red pepper flakes, and basil. Stir until well mixed.
Step 15: Remove from the heat and allow it to cook for a few more minutes while covered.
Step 16: Serve and enjoy!
Notes:
If you are using Farfalle or Penne pasta:
Refer to the directions on how to cook it.
Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
Toss into the sauce.
