Ingredients:
For the steak:
1-lb (454 g) ground beef
¼ c (30 g) breadcrumbs
1 large (1) Egg
2 tsp (10 ml) Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp (5 ml) onion powder
½ tsp (2.5 ml) garlic salt
½ tsp (2.5 ml) mustard powder
¼ tsp (1.25 ml) kosher salt
lots fresh ground black pepper, or to taste
1 tbsp (15 ml) cooking oil, for searing beef patties
For the Mushroom Gravy
3 tbsp (30 g) butter
8 oz (227 g) mushrooms, sliced
1 (1) medium onion, sliced
2 cloves (2 cloves) garlic, minced
¼-1/2 c (30-60 g) flour, depending on how thick you like your gravy
3 c (720 ml) broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)
kosher salt or sea salt, or to taste
black pepper to taste
Directions:
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, add beef, Worcestershire sauce, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic salt, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
Step 2: Form 4 round patties from the mixture.
Step 3: Place a large pan on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Step 4: Add in oil and allow it to become too hot.
Step 5: Add the beef patties and cook each side for 1 minute or until brown, then place them on a clean plate.
Step 6: In the same pan, add the onions and mushrooms, then cook for about 10 minutes or until most liquid of the mushroom evaporates and onions turn golden.
Step 7: Add in the butter and garlic. Allow the butter to melt and the garlic to become aromatic for about a minute.
Step 8: Add in the flour and stir until well incorporated.
Step 9: Add in 1 cup of beef stock and whisk until well blended.
Step 10: Adjust the heat to high and gradually add the rest of the broth, then whisk continuously. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Step 11: Turn the heat down to low when the gravy begins to boil. Simmer the gravy for 5 to 10 minutes until thick. Make sure to stir from time to time.
Step 12: Put the patties back in the pan and cook for about 5 to 10 minutes. Add more salt and pepper if needed.
Step 13: Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta, then put the yummy sauce on top. Enjoy!
