This Cabbage and Noodles have always been my comfort food! I first had it when I was in college. My roommate introduced me to this simple yet delicious meal. It pretty much helped me all throughout college. Now, I still cook this to remind me of the good old college days! To my best friend/roommate, Michelle, I miss you and thank you for teaching me how to cook this incredible dish! By the way, try adding Kielbasa or ham in this. Oh, man, they bring this simple recipe to the next level. A little chilli powder also gives it a nice kick. I highly recommend it! Serve this with garlic bread or top it with dumplings and you have yourself a meal to remember. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon kosher salt
4 cups sliced cabbage
1 cup sliced onions
4 tablespoon butter, canola oil or bacon fat
2 teaspoon sugar
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 cups cooked noodles
sour cream for serving
Directions:
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, add the sliced cabbage and salt. Use your hands to squeeze both ingredients and leave it for 30 minutes until set.
Step 2: Place a deep skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 3: Add in butter and allow it to melt.
Step 4: Add in the onions, cabbage, pepper, and sugar. Stir until well mixed.
Step 5: Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes or until the cabbages turn brown.
Step 6: Add in the cooked noodles and toss until well combined.
Step 7: Remove from the heat.
Step 8: Serve with cheesecloth drained sour cream. Enjoy!
Note:
You can make this simple noodle recipe into a main dish. Just add cubed ham or Kielbasa when frying the cabbage.
