Ingredients
2 tsp white granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 c. all-purpose flour
2 tbsp cornmeal, self-rising or regular
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
½ c. cooking oil I used Canola
2 ½ c. chopped onions – I used 1 ½ large white onions, chopped
1 c. milk
How to make Onion Patties
Step 1: In a large bowl, place the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cornmeal. Mix well until combined. Then, add the chopped onions and stir well. Next, pour in the milk. Using a spoon, mix everything well.
Step 2: In a skillet, heat the oil. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the mixture and cook the first side until brown. Then, flip and continue to cook the other side. For each patty, I use a ¼ c measuring cup full of batter.
Step 3: If needed, add more oil to the skillet while frying.
Note:
If you prefer hot and spicy patties, you are welcome to add some garlic powder, hot sauce, or your preferred seasonings to the batter.
