These heavenly treats are simply the best! I have been making these Classic Cabbage Rolls for years, and I’m still in love with them to this day! Try this recipe now!
Ingredients:
12 cabbage leaves
1 Egg, beaten
½ c minced onion
¼ tsp garlic powder
1 lb. extra-lean meat, half ground beef and half ground pork
¼ c milk
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 14.5 oz. can of diced or crushed tomatoes, with liquid
1 ½ tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 c cooked white rice (cook in beef broth for added flavor)
2 8 oz. cans of tomato sauce
1 ¼ tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
Directions:
Place a large pot with water on the stove and turn the heat to high. Allow the water to boil.
Add the cabbage and steam for 6 minutes or until done.
Drain the water and peel the cabbage leaves and let them cool completely.
Add egg, rice, ground beef, milk, ground beef, onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder into a large mixing bowl. Stir everything until well blended.
Add ¼ cup of the meat mixture to the middle of each cabbage leaf, then roll it up. Seal the sides.
Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Apply cooking spray to a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Add the cabbage rolls into the prepared baking dish and arrange them in a single layer.
Add tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, and tomato sauce into a mixing bowl. Stir until well blended.
Pour the mixture on top of the cabbage rolls and make sure to coat them well.
Place the baking dish inside the preheated oven and bake the cabbage rolls for about an hour or until done.
Remove from the oven and allow the cabbage rolls to rest for a few minutes at room temperature.
Serve and enjoy!
Notes:
You slow cook these cabbage rolls for 8 to 9 hours on a low setting.
