Ingredients:
Chicken:
1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, about 6 thighs, or 3 chicken breasts*
1 ½ c all-purpose flour
½ c cornstarch
½ teaspoon salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 large Egg
1 ¼ c water
1 tbsp vegetable oil, canola, sunflower, etc.
vegetable oil, for frying depending on the size of your pan
Sauce:
1 large orange, you’ll need the juice and zest
2 tbsp soy sauce
¼ c rice vinegar, or white vinegar
½ c brown sugar, packed
2 large garlic cloves, minced, or 1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp cornstarch, mixed with 1 tbsp water
Garnishes (optional):
sesame seeds
green onions, chopped
red pepper flakes
Directions:
For the Chicken:
Step 1: Slice the chicken into small cuts.
Step 2: Add flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper into a medium mixing bowl.
Step 3: Add egg, water, and oil. Whisk until well combined.
Step 4: Add the sliced chicken pieces into the mixing bowl. Toss until well coated.
Step 5: Cover the bowl and place it inside the fridge to chill for at least 30 minutes.
Step 6: Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
Step 7: Add enough and allow it to become hot.
Step 8: Add the chicken pieces and cook for about 15 minutes.
Step 9: Remove the chicken pieces from the heat onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Cover them to keep warm.
To Make the Orange Chicken Sauce:
Step 1: Add the orange juice, soy sauce, orange zest, brown sugar, garlic, and vinegar to a medium saucepan. Stir until just mixed.
Step 2: Place the saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium. Let the mixture boil. Add more soy sauce and vinegar if needed.
Step 3: Combine water and cornstarch, then pour it into the pan. Stir until well blended.
Step 4: Toss in the fried chicken pieces until well coated with the delicious sauce.
Step 5: Sprinkle red pepper flakes, green onions, and sesame seeds on top.
Step 6: Serve right away and enjoy!
